When I won an acupuncture treatment at Denver Community Acupuncture I was so excited! Not only because we loved working with them and providing their signage needs, but also because they are such great people and I have been wanting to see them for acupuncture treatments. Ever since we started working with them I realized they had a great idea and amazing energy. Their approach is simple; offer affordable health care for a healthy community. They offer flexible pricing on an income based range and also unique community treatment. Going back to the roots of Chinese Medicine acupuncture was performed in a community/group setting. This is how many people practice acupuncture to this day and DCA has embraced the idea. By being able to take several people at a time they are able to treat more people and keep the costs down for you and me. I have to say I was a little hesitant to the idea at first, of sharing my acupuncture treatment experience with other people right next to me. I am no stranger to acupuncture and have gone many times before for chronic pain, but I was excited to try a new way of experiencing it.
Walking into Denver Community Acupuncture, the energy hits you immediately! Feelings of joy, peacefulness, relaxation and clarity fill the air. Every detail of the décor had also been thought out; the calming colors on the walls, light incense aromas, colorful fabrics and textiles and artwork and decorations that all contributed to the amazing feelings the space and treatments gave you. I waited for a short time in the front lobby area and enjoyed some hot tea they also offer while you wait. Jessica Goodman was my acupuncturist and she came and got me and escorted me to a private consultation room where we could talk. She went over my paperwork with all my medical history and current conditions. We talked for a while about everything together and discussed a plan of action for treatment. Jessica was very professional and caring, and I felt completely comfortable and was excited to start my treatment!
She then led me to the back of the space where they have their community acupuncture room. The lights were low and ambient music filled the air. The space definitely felt warm and cozy. No one else was in there yet, as I was the first appointment of the day. Jessica sat me down and explained where she would be putting needles and explained what each point was suppose to do. In this type of acupuncture environment you are not required to take all your clothes off, just to wear loose fitting clothing so they can reach specific areas. I laid back in a super comfy recliner with my feet up and rolled my pant legs up. She started with my hands and wrists and then moved to my ear and finally my legs and feet. The needles were placed in particular spots that correlate with areas in your body that need attention. They also restore the balance of energy and Qi (Chee) moving throughout your body. The needles don’t hurt going in like many people think. There can be a slight pinch and then a dull ache when they are put in. The dull ache and/or no pain mean they are working. Once they are all in she leaves me for about 40 minutes to relax and let the treatment take effect. Almost immediately you feel a change in your body and feel the positive energy restore and flow. You also can go into a meditation like state where you feel absolutely relaxed and peaceful. The experience is truly one everyone should try and I am and avid believer that acupuncture could help many people if they gave it a chance.
About 20 minutes in Jessica came back into the room with another patient. “Alright”, I thought, “Let’s see how this works with multiple people being treated, will it be weird or uncomfortable?” She led them behind me and checked on me on her way by. She was very careful to whisper and be quiet as to not disturb my treatment experience. I have to say, I could not really even hear her or the other patient speaking, it was still very private and peaceful. After she was done treating them she left and we both were there enjoying our treatment. I was so into my own experience I didn’t even think about the other people in the room and we all just closed our eyes and took it all in. It was actually comforting to have other people around who are all there for similar reasons and contributing to a positive healing atmosphere. A little later Jessica returned and took all the needles out. She next did an herbal heat treatment on specific spots on my body, and then I was done.
When I was upfront and scheduling my next appointment I also got information on some of the other services they offer at DCA. They also have two massage therapists available with amazing treatments, and also an intuitive healing counselor that will help you figure out why you are feeling ill and how to get better. Next time I will definitely take advantage of these! My whole experience there was so great! I can’t wait to go back and create a relationship with them on a regular basis. They have an amazing idea and the attitude to achieve it. I am definitely going to recommend them to everyone I know and I can’t wait to see them really take off. Thanks go to Denver Community Acupuncture and especially Jessica Goodman and Nikole Maxey, good luck ladies!
